WHITTIER, Calif. – Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez’s (D-Whittier) announced today that the California Federation of Teachers endorsed her re-election campaign in California’s 41st congressional district. The CFT comprises 147 local unions representing dedicated education workers from early childhood through university.

Sánchez is the incumbent running in the redrawn 41st district, which includes parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties she currently or previously represented in Congress, including her hometown of Whittier.

“As a former ESL teacher, earning the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers is deeply personal to me,” said Congresswoman Sánchez. “Our educators show up every single day for their students, and I will keep showing up for them in Washington. Our students deserve nothing less.”

“Congresswoman Sánchez has spent her career fighting for the values that educators and classified professionals believe in,” said Jeff Freitas, CFT president. “Southern California’s students deserve a representative who stands up for public education and fight for the resources that our schools need. We are proud to endorse her and look forward to continuing to work alongside her in Congress.”

The proud daughter of Mexican immigrant parents and a lifelong Southern Californian, Sánchez has spent her career fighting for people who too often don’t have a seat at the table. From her early days teaching English as a second language to challenging abusive corporations as labor lawyer to becoming the first woman of color to lead her party on a House Ways and Means subcommittee, Sánchez has shown she is never afraid to take on tough battles.

As a leader in Congress, she has fought to improve education at every level – from early childhood through college. She has fought to block cuts to public education and has secured millions of dollars for schools in her district.

Sánchez is currently the House Democratic Chief Deputy Whip. She is the former chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and the current chair of BOLD PAC, the campaign arm of the CHC. She has used her leadership positions to expand Latino representation in Congress and champion policies that uplift working families, women and immigrants.

A graduate of UC Berkeley and UCLA Law, Sánchez lives in Whittier with her son, Joaquín, and their dog Scully. She is one of only 13 women in history to give birth while serving in Congress.
