Linda was born in Orange County to immigrant parents from Mexico. Her father worked as an industrial mechanic and her mother was an elementary school teacher. From her parents, Linda learned dedication, gratitude, hard work, and commitment to community. She graduated from UC Berkeley and earned a law degree from UCLA.
Linda is the proud mom of Joaquín, who was born in 2009. She is only the eighth woman in history to give birth while serving in Congress. The two can often be found playing with Scully, the family’s miniature Schnauzer.
As a leader in Congress, Linda Sánchez is a tireless advocate lowering costs for California’s working families. She is committed to strengthening our middle class, providing a safe and quality education for our children, and encouraging economic growth and job creation through innovation and manufacturing.
The first woman member of IBEW elected to Congress and a co-founder of the Labor Caucus, Linda is dedicated to fighting for California’s workers. She champions policies to ensure that workers are safe on the job from both workplace accidents and employer intimidation and retaliation. Workers deserve good wages that help them afford to live here, and the certainty of knowing they’ll be able to retire with dignity.
Linda serves as a senior member on the House Committee on Ways and Means where she works on tax, trade, retirement security, and health care issues. She’s passed legislation to prevent health insurance companies from making women pay more for the same insurance that men get, and she’s fighting to pass legislation to make child care more affordable for working families.
As the top Democrat on the Trade Subcommittee, she is committed to level the playing field for American workers and bring jobs back from overseas. She’s fought to end Trump’s illegal tariffs which raised costs for everyone and harmed domestic manufacturing.
Trump’s administration has been lawless in every way: starting an illegal war that has driven up the cost of gas; instituting illegal tariffs that have driven up the costs of homes, cars and groceries; and gutting health care for millions of working families. Linda has been leading the charge to oppose Trump and protect Californians. She has voted to impeach Trump and been on the front lines opposing his cruel immigration policies.
Trump has turned ICE into his own personal secret police and must be stopped. Linda has refused to fund ICE’s reign of terror over our communities and fought for serious reform: body cameras to keep them accountable, rigorous hiring standards including background checks, preventing them from wearing masks to hide their identities, reinstating the sensitive locations policy to stop ICE from raiding churches and hospitals, and more.
She previously led the House Ethics Committee, where she fought to hold her colleagues accountable – no one is above the law. She supports a congressional stock ban because no member of Congress should be getting rich off of insider trading while Americans struggle to afford groceries.
