Likely Democratic and independent primary voters in the NEW CA-41 (zip codes and precincts below) – particularly voters who were not previously in the OLD 38th District – need to see on digital video platforms like Meta, YouTube, and other streaming platforms and in their mailboxes that:
- Democrat Linda Sánchez is a Southern California native born to immigrant parents from Mexico. Her parents, a mechanic and teacher, taught Sánchez that hard work and education are the foundations to achieving the American Dream. As a former schoolteacher, union labor lawyer, and now Congresswoman/Mom, Cong. Sánchez has dedicated her life to protecting working families. Sánchez has championed policies to bring good-paying jobs to Southern California, bring down grocery, housing, and health care costs, protect small businesses, and improve water and air quality for our children.
- She’s also leading the fight on extremism, including: standing up to Trump and continuing to oppose corrupt corporate and political interests. While typical politicians are protecting corporate interests and wealthy donors instead of standing up for everyday people, Cong. Sánchez is focused on breaking up monopolies that are driving up costs and holding price-gouging corporations, insurance companies and utility companies accountable when they raise prices unfairly. And she believes in transparency and accountability for elected officials from both parties: that’s why she supports a ban on congressional stock trading.
While the above messages are the priority, voters must also see the contrast between Congresswoman Sánchez fighting extremists and Hector de la Torre cozying up to them. Voters would benefit from knowing that Hector De La Torre is the Republicans’ choice for Congress because he stands with them and big corporations, not with working families.
- De La Torre is backed by MAGA Republicans and supports them. He has bragged about endorsements from Republican elected officials, supported MAGA Republicans for local office, including this year in Whittier, and has taken thousands in campaign contributions from donors to Republicans.
- De La Torre doesn’t care about providing us with safe and reliable health care. While De La Torre was board chair of a health insurance plan, the company was fined a record-breaking $55 million for failures that regulators said “continue to threaten the health” of patients. Low-income patients faced “agonizing, sometimes deadly” delays to see specialists, with at least 6 patients dying of illnesses while awaiting treatment.
- De La Torre’s company bragged about hiring an ICE official. De La Torre is on the corporate board of a cannabis company that cooperated with ICE following raids that targeted employees and then bragged about hiring a former ICE official to appease the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement rules.
