Linda was born in Orange County, California to immigrant parents from Mexico. Her father worked as an industrial mechanic and her mother was an elementary school teacher. From her parents, Linda learned dedication, gratitude, hard work, and commitment to community. She graduated from UC Berkeley and earned a law degree from UCLA.
Linda is the proud mom of Joaquín, who was born in 2009. She is only the eighth woman in history to give birth while serving in Congress. The two can often be found playing with Scully, the family’s miniature Schnauzer.
As a leader in Congress, Linda Sánchez is a tireless advocate for California’s working families. She is committed to strengthening our middle class, providing a safe and quality education for our children, and encouraging economic growth and job creation through innovation and manufacturing.
As the first woman member of IBEW elected to Congress and a co-founder of the Labor Caucus, Linda is dedicated to fighting for California’s workers. She champions policies to ensure that workers are safe on the job, from both workplace accidents and employer intimidation and retaliation. Linda brings government and the business community together to attract good paying jobs to Southern California.
In Congress, Linda serves as a senior member on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means where she works on tax, trade, retirement security, and healthcare issues. She is working to reform our tax code so that it is simple, fair, and provides certainty to working families and small businesses.
Ensuring that the U.S. remains competitive in the global economy is also a top priority for Linda. As the top Democrat on the Trade Subcommittee, she is fighting to level the playing field for American workers, bring jobs back from overseas and pushing for policies that ensure our international trade agreements provide economic and employment opportunities for U.S. companies and workers.”
Linda is recognized by her colleagues in Congress for her ability to handle any challenge. That is why then-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi previously tapped Linda to lead the Ethics Committee and serve on the Select Committee on Benghazi.
Currently, in addition to serving as a senior member on the Ways and Means Committee, Linda is a member of the U.S. delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly, where she works with representatives from other NATO countries on global issues ranging from climate resiliency to combatting terrorism.
